This Week 5/24/10

Published by under Uncategorized

Hello Everyone!!   Wow, the school year is going by quickly, only 3 and 1/2 weeks left.  I am enjoying every second of it and I am sad to see my short time with all of you go so quickly!!

Here is what we have going on this week:

Reading:  We are continuing to learn about the different parts of a non-fiction book and we will be finishing up our own non-fiction books this week.  We will begin a wonderful new section of authors and mentors focusing on Mem Fox next week!

Word Wall Words: Today in class we reviewed the words: after, children, can’t, down, talk.   In the homework sent home today we are also reviewing: children, like, have, friend, and because                      You may practice all words this week with your child.

Writing:  Our How-To books are coming along quite nicely.  We are learning the difference between teaching someone how to do something and telling a story about when you did that same thing.  This week we are revising and editing and will make our final drafts.

Math:  We are finishing up unit nine in our math expressions curriculum.   This may be challenging for some of the students, but it is just an introduction and they will touch more upon story problems and adding multiple numbers in 2nd grade, so no worries!!!  They are all doing great!

Social Studies:   We are still learning as much as we can about the wonderful continent of Australia.  Ask your student to tell you about all of the cool facts we have learned about the land down under!

Reminders:  The students will be participating in the jump-a-thon Tuesday in their P.E.  class.  Make sure to get your sponsorship forms in!

Our class musical is Wednesday.  Keep practicing at home!!

We have the Gold Medal assembly on Friday from 2:30 to 3!

Have a splederiffic week!!!

We also started learning about how to read non- fiction books and we are working on making our own non-fiction book!

Word Wall Words: Last week was our last week of word wall words:         girl, boy, can’t, won’t, after.   From now on we will be reviewing all of our word wall words we have learned throughout the year!

Science: Last friday was our field trip to the Pacific Science Center.  We had a blast looking at all the different science exhibits and watching the 3-D  IMAX  Hubble 3-D.  Thank you to all of the parents who came along with us, the field trip was a great success!!

Reminders: Friday, May 21st, is an early release at 12:30.

Wednesday, May 26th, is our class musical performance with Mrs. Farley called, “Animals, Animals”.  Students should arrive at 6:40 P.M. and the show will start at 7:00.  Letters were sent home with your child and it is a great idea to practice at home!!  See you all there!
